A Big Networking Don’t
I attended a networking event last night and wanted to write a quick blog post about the importance of being personable when networking.
It doesn’t serve you well if while out networking you treat others coldly or with some degree of disdain. Whatever you do watch your facial expressions and don’t look up and down at people as if they are aliens.
Now some of you are probably reading this thinking, “No kidding Maureen, we know better than that!”, and I am sure you do. However, this evening I witnessed a whole host of women behaving just like that.
This type of behavior reflects so poorly on you as a business owner and I am quite certain if I noticed this type of behavior others did as well. Never mind the poor person on the receiving end and how this made them feel.
One of the points of networking is to meet new people that you possibly could establish a relationship with and someday do business. If you are not interested in meeting new people or are going to judge others with your facial expressions and disrespectful looks – well, I have one piece of advice for you – stay home!

"Thanks so much for the articles in Your Phenomenal Business. It's like a free mini consulting session!” “Thanks so much for the articles in Your Phenomenal Business. I can get so busy during the day working IN my business, that without a good nudge -- like these great articles -- I can forget to work ON my business. Your advice is practical and sound and written in such an easy, flowing manner. It's like a free mini consulting session!”

Thank you Maureen, for pointing out what seems so obvious to most of us, but clearly not everyone gets it. Ours is not to judge. You can’t ever know the value that other person can offer, until you meet them and get to know them. Using the simple Golden Rule is all it takes, do unto others…
I agree wholeheartedly! I don’t think people realize how they come off sometimes, me included, thanks for reminding us all what is proper and what is not.
