The Beauty of Being An Entrepreneur

Well, 2011 has already hit a snag! My mother fell the day of the storm and broke her arm so I am back to juggling work between the hospital and home.

That’s the beauty of being an entrepreneur; the ability to take care of whatever needs to happen in your business and still attend to your family. One of the ways that I accomplish this is by delegating tasks to my team.

Lisa, my VA, is the primary person that takes care of issues for me like sending out this newsletter. But my web designer is hard at work right now creating a new website too. Hiring and delegating to a high performance team is one of the topics I will be covering in my BRAND NEW 2011 Money, Marketing and Mindset Mastermind.

Are you sitting there reading this thinking, “Boy, do I wish I knew how to hire the right people to support me in my business?”

Chaos To Clarity

I had an awesome call with my Money, Marketing and Mindset Mastermind clients today.   What came through crystal clear is how focused they are on WHO they serve.

When they came to the coaching program they were really scattered and unfocused working with anyone who would part with money so they could keep their business going.

In only a few short months, they have all gotten crystal clear on who their ideal clients are, how they solve a problem for those clients and the value behind what they do.

It’s awesome to see this unfolding as their business grows.

This could be you!   Contact me today, if you want to learn how you can turn your business around before the end of the year!

How Do You Handle The Challenges In Your Business?

Being a small business owner has its struggles and challenges both big and small:  the insurance just went up, you run out of printer ink in the middle of a really important job, your best client leaves you, your last marketing campaign was a flop.  The list is endless, frustrating and can leave you completely deflated.

So what’s a smart and savvy women entrepreneur like yourself to do when faced with these daunting challenges?  And what differentiates the women that bust through these challenges from the entrepreneur who is left feeling hopeless, drained and overwhelmed?

The difference is in how you look at things.

Wayne Dyer states:  “Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change.”

You can either wallow in self pity proclaiming, “woe is me”, or you can embrace the challenges and understand there is no escaping them in business.

Think of it this way…when you look at challenges from a new perspective it shifts from being a disastrous experience to a golden opportunity to do things differently. From this position you can make improvements, offer better services, and find creative ways to market your services that provide more value to your customers.  All good things!

Why do you do what you do everyday?  Reflecting you your “big why” can really give you that boost of motivation when the challenges are all too present. Keeping focused on your “big why” is another way to lift you up when feeling down.

Finally, if you are faced with challenges in your business, there’s a good chance that others have had similar experiences.  Hiring a coach and finding a great mastermind group is two of the most powerful tools you can utilize to help you grow a successful business.

Remember, challenges will come up. But, if you face them with a new perspective — as an opportunity to grow and make your business better, you will come out on the other side with a fresh perspective and a stronger business.

There's No Magic Pill

On Sunday I had the pleasure of speaking at the Ladies Who Launch and 85 Broads first joint Power Networking Brunch.  My talk entitled “I’d Rather Be On Top” highlighted the mindset shifts and strategies that one must make in order to have a successful business and life.

At the end of the meeting several of the women came up to me and asked what else they needed to do to be successful.  I told them the truth…it takes alot of hard work, dedication, great systems and again, I reminded them it all lies in their ability to adopt the proper mindset of success.

I had the distinct impression that they were looking for some magic pill that would make growing their business easier.  The reality is ladies that there is no magic pill, but there are  a couple of things that you need to put in place to create a thriving business.

1.  Develop a Team That Serves You

You can’t do it alone and quite frankly why would you want to.  Being able to delegate those activities that can bog me down in the minutia isn’t going to help me build a lucrative business.

Having a team that supports my vision of the company and does what I need done, how and when I need it, has been key in my being able to build a successful businesses.  Start out with one person maybe for 5-10 hours a month and build up from there.  Use your new found time to market your business and watch it grow!

2.  Stop Believing You Can Do It Without the Proper Mentoring and Training

Now some of you  may think that this bullet is self-serving, but the truth of the matter is that I have a couple of mentors and coaches that I rely on to provide me with the training and coaching that I need to continue to grow my business.

I tried it on my own.  It didn’t work very well for me and I bet it’s not working very well for you either.

Being a business women and having no other sounding board can sometimes take you down a path of self destruction.  Why?  Because it’s hard to do things in a vacuum  all on your lonesome.

I rely on my coaches to keep me focused and accountable and I use them as a way to test out my thinking when developing new programs and services.

Do yourself a favor and find a coach that you can work with successfully.  Your businesses will see the results of your investment.

3.  Develop The Systems To Support Your Growth

Often times the  business begins to grow and wham, we’re hit with the realization we aren’t prepared for it.

If every time you launch a new product or develop a new service you have to start from scratch then you don’t have the system in place you need to leverage your time.

Do yourself a favor and  document the system now as your business is still developing so that when it happens you’ll be ready for it.

Remember, growing a successful business won’t happen by popping “a magic pill.” It takes work.  But having a team that supports you, coaches and mentors to focus and teach you, and the systems to grow with your business will help put you on the road to a successful and profitable business.

Put Some Skin In The Game

If you are a women business owner struggling to reach the financial freedom that you desire you’ve probably toyed with the idea of investing in a coaching program.

I can only imagine what you have said to yourself as you have contemplated making this investment.  Maybe you have said things like, “I’m not sure I can afford it” or “I don’t know if this program will help me.”  Whatever you have said to yourself I want you to consider something very important:  making a financial commitment will move you forward.

The best way to break the pattern you are in, the “stuck” place is to make a financial commitment to your goals.  When you have money invested in you and the future success of your business you have a very good reason to get off the dime and start taking action. Every single dollar you invest IS the reason!

For many entrepreneurs, myself included, I invest in coaching, training, and mentoring services to help me achieve my goals.  Something very extraordinary happens when you invest in yourself…you are more committed than ever to get your money’s worth.

How do you know which program to choose or which coach to pick from?  If you want to get your money’s worth (and frankly, who doesn’t) invest in a coach who’s fee is outside of your comfort zone. Reaching beyond your comfort zone is critical to stepping up in your business and ending the endless cycle of frustration.

Everyone’s comfort zone will be different.  For some $100 will be a huge stretch and for others $5,000 will be a stretch.  No matter which number is a stretch for you, make the commitment to invest in yourself. If you don’t, who will?

4 Simple But Effective Marketing Strategies That Create On-going Cash Flow

Success and WealthIf you are like most other coaches, consultants and small business owners you probably dread, maybe even hate to market your business.  The problem if you feel that way is that everything you do is about marketing your business.

Funny thing is this:  If you hate marketing that much you probably are not spending a whole heck of a lot of time marketing your business, and if you are not marketing your business your cash flow is probably really suffering.  Am I right?  Read on and learn 4 simple but effective marketing strategies that can help create on-going cash flow in your business.

1. Become A Magnet To Your Perfect Clients

I have written about the idea of identifying your ideal client before so this should come as no surprise…Know what your ideal clients want, know how you can help solve their problems and communicate this consistently all the time.

In order to effectively become that magnet you will need a couple of things:

  • A clear marketing message
  • An awesome website
  • A juicy free offer with an e-mail capturing database
  • A clear understanding of what your gifts are and how working with you will ultimately change the life of your clients

2.  Share Great and Valuable Content With Your Prospects

In this day and age there are many places that prospects can go to get some FREE help and resources.  What can you offer to help you stand out from the crowd?  Providing valuable content that answers some questions and offers them a take away without giving away the farm is a great combination that will keep those prospects coming back and investing with you.  Remember, your free offer should give them some help but not go so far that they don’t come back for more.

3. Share Your Time with Your Tribe

Connecting with your tribe is the best investment you can make and it literally only costs you your time.  Connect regularly with them on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and your newsletter.  Make sure you publish your newsletter regularly so they know when to expect it.

One of the best ways to interact with your tribe of followers is by engaging them in a conversation.  This is accomplished by asking questions on your blog, on Facebook and Twitter posts and in your newsletter.

Don’t forget to share information about yourself.  Now don’t get freaked out on me.  You ultimately control the amount of information you share with your followers.  There is a fine line between too much and too little but if you are resistant to sharing I would ask you to work through that resistance.  Followers want to build a connection with you and if you never share anything personal about yourself chances are they will go to someone who will.

4. Ask Your Followers To Take the Next Step

Here is THE mistake that most solopreneurs make!  They fail to ask their tribe to take the next step. They fail to market their services to the people that they are engaged with.  They fail to ask them to invest in themselves by working with you.

Does this sound familiar?  This is where your fear of sales and marketing comes in…you see how this kills your cash flow?

Asking is ok, heck it’s necessary!  But I know how scary it can be just asking.  Do you struggle with these very issues?

If you have that fear of sales and marketing I will be addressing this very issue in my Money, Marketing and Mindset Mastermind Program that is currently forming.  Contact me at 978-794-4991 or at maureen@daretobephenomenal.com to request an application.  Don’t delay as space is limited and the early bird pricing goes away February 28th!

I look forward to helping you break through your stuck points and create the cash flow you desire!

It Can Be Easy

I have been away for over a week.  My last post was Thanksgiving.  Last week was a crazy week because of the Holiday Extravaganza!  It was a huge success and I have to admit for my first attempt went pretty well.  I learned an increadible amount about how to run a successful event and what not to do the next time around.

It got me thinking that this is what happens in your business.  You make a decision; it either turns out as you planned or not and then you learn from your mistakes.  But it does not have to be that way!  Working with a mentor coach can help you take months and years off growing your business because they have already been there and done that; they have made the mistakes, had the heartbreaks and failures and already know what NOT to do next time around.

2009 is fast coming to a close.  Do you want to catapult your business to success next year? Is 2010 going to be your year or will you be kicking yourself at the end of it wishing you had worked with a coach who has already made the mistakes and wanted to teach you the right things to do?

If you want 2010 to be your year contact me at maureen@daretobephenomenal.com to learn about all the new and exciting programs that will be available in 2010.  Look forward to helping you grow your business!

The Power of Gratitude

I read a story recently written by Dr. Alan Morinis about Itzhak Perlman and I would like to share it with you.  The story highlights how gratitude can be found in any situation; it all depends on how you look at things.

There is a story — maybe an urban legend, but full of truth nonetheless — concerning the famous violinist Itzhak Perlman. One evening, Perlman was in New York to give a concert. As a child he had been stricken with polio and getting on stage is no small feat for him. He wears braces on both legs and walks with two crutches. Perlman crossed the stage painfully slowly, until he reached the chair in which he seated himself to play.

As soon as he appeared on stage that night, the audience applauded and then waited respectfully as he made his way slowly across the stage. He took his seat, signaled to the conductor, and began to play.

No sooner had he finished the first few bars than one of the strings on his violin snapped with a report like gunshot. At that point Perlman was close enough to the beginning of the piece that it would have been reasonable to bring the concert to a halt while he replaced the string to begin again. But that’s not what he did. He waited a moment and then signaled the conductor to pick up just where they had left off.

Perlman now had only three strings with which to play his soloist part. He was able to find some of the missing notes on adjoining strings, but where that wasn’t possible, he had to rearrange the music on the spot in his head so that it all still held together.

He played with passion and artistry, spontaneously rearranging the symphony right through to the end. When he finally rested his bow, the audience sat for a moment in stunned silence. And then they rose to their feet and cheered wildly. They knew they had been witness to an extraordinary display of human skill and ingenuity.

Perlman raised his bow to signal for quiet. “You know,” he said, “sometimes it is the artist’s task to find out how much beautiful music you can still make with what you have left.”

We have to wonder, was he speaking of his violin strings or his crippled body? And is it true only for artists? We are all lacking something, and so we are all challenged to answer the question: Do we have the attitude of making something of beauty out of what we do have, incomplete as it may be?

When you are open to gratitude you see clearly and perfectly how much good there is in your life.  Gratitude affirms that very fact.

We will always be faced with challenges in our lives.  Life provides the ebb and the flow no matter how much we try to resist it.  There is no limit to what we don’t have and if we focus on the lack in our lives we will inevitably be filled with an abundant amount of pain and dissatisfaction.  But when we can look at our lives, businesses, family situations with a focus on what is right we experience gratitude.

Like other attitudes, gratitude can be cultivated.  We don’t have to wait for our fairy godmother to shower us with presents to feel thankful.  We can develop gratitude by reflecting on the gifts that we already have.  Gratitude is the memory of our own heart I once heard someone say.  It is therefore an expression of love and abiding friendship which transforms itself into deed.

I try to cultivate gratitude every day and when I feel it – when I am grateful for my body and mind, for the world in which I live, for my family and friends – I know that my spiritual path is in order.  When I don’t feel it, I understand that I am off and I try to right myself.

Gratitude is profound – it takes us to the edge and beyond.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.

What Is Your Money Story?

Money.  The word conjures up a ton of emotions for most of us.  Some of them good and often times bad.  When I was a child my father would often tell me that I needed to “work hard” if I wanted to be successful.  As I grew up he would often exclaim, “That Maureen, she’s not afraid of hard work!”  To even write that makes me cringe now.  Back then, I thought that was how it needed to be; that I needed to work very long hours, with little time to enjoy myself if I had any chance at being successful.

What I learned over the last several years was how untrue that really was.  Now, don’t get me wrong I work, but the work is no longer hard.  I can have a career that I love and make the money that I am worth without sacrificing myself and my personal time in the process.

What stuff gets in the way of you doing what you love and making the money that you desire?  Are you sick and tired of struggling with money issues?  Want to find out more about what money means for you and where your limiting beliefs come from?

I want to pose some questions for you to ponder.  Get out a piece of paper and write your answers down.  Let the information percolate for a while.  See what ideas pop up for you that are unresolved when it comes to money.  Let me know how you do as I would love to read your comments!

1. What are the money stories that you grew up with? We all have them and they have shaped our beliefs about money since we were very young.  What’s yours?

2. How has this money story shown up in your life? Think about this one because I bet it shows up over and over again.  For me, I was always working and finding jobs that required that I work long, tedious hours in order to make a good living.  What about you?

3. What is the underlying belief that is within that story? These are the beliefs albeit positive or negative that has shaped your money story.

4. Within the story, what is there to love or be grateful for?

5. Within the story, what is there to forgive?

6. What do you value in your life right now in this moment?

7. How would having more money support what you value most?

Are you ready to answer these questions?  Are you ready to have a different belief about money?  If you want to really make the changes to bust through your money roadblocks then watch for upcoming details about a brand new group coaching program that I will be launching in 2010!  Imagine finally being rid of what stands between you and making the money you desire…
